Remote surfing adventures and being decisive with Ben Herrgott.

Ben Herrgott started surfing a few years after moving from France to Australia in 2002. After working for 10 years in Melbourne, Ben decided to make up for all the years away from the water, and try to fast-track his learning. He approved it as an investment in his future: if he surfs all kinds of waves with all kinds of people in all kinds of countries, he should improve enough to ensure that he will have a ball every time he gets his gills wet…

Ben loves to surf in the coldest most remote places as he can. He believes that everything is easy, once a decision is made.

About Ben

Ben Herrgott started surfing a few years after moving from France to Australia in 2002. After working for 10 years in Melbourne, Ben decided to make up for all the years away from the water, and try to fast-track his learning. He approved it as an investment in his future: if he surfs all kinds of waves with all kinds of people in all kinds of countries, he should improve enough to ensure that he will have a ball every time he gets his gills wet…

Ben enjoys rugged landscape - cold water and empty places, so he almost only travels to explore waves in colder regions of the world: Far East Russia, Alaska... and sometimes he chooses to ride a mountain bike instead to mix it up a bit with his last bike trip being in Greenland.

The more you discover, the more you become curious.
— Ben Herrgott

In the episode...

  • Ben always loves to have 2-3 travel' ‘projects’ in planning for the future.

  • The endless summer was the movie that motivated Ben to want to try surfing.

  • How Ben is able to embark on all of his surfing and travelling and surfing adventures.

  • He didn’t find it easy to leave behind the corporate life and he thought about it for a long time.

  • Ben followed the best waves based on winter bringing the most consistent swell.

  • How facebook marketplace was a catalyst for Bens bike trip to Greenland.

  • Where Bens motivation comes from to travel to such remote places.

  • Bens summit of Mont Blanc.

  • Spending a year to make a decision is paralysis by analysis.

  • Where Ben is heading for his next adventure.

  • Why Ben doesn’t plan so much before a trip.

Why Ben continues to seek out travels and adventures. The more you discover, the more you become curious. And to be able to see the planet in its beautiful state right now.

Being able to make decisions quickly is like you have freedom.
— Ben Herrgott

That big trip may not be the break that you need with Michelle Kerr.

Michelle is a qualified counsellor, successful entrepreneur and now Business Wellbeing Coach. She is the creator of the platform Wellbeing Weekly, which provides mindset, wellbeing & business tools and support for female health & wellbeing entrepreneurs to thrive in their business and life - without sacrificing their own wellbeing, relationships or lifestyle.

Michelle believes that travel and adventure is best incorporated in your day to day life.

About Michelle

Michelle is a qualified counsellor, successful entrepreneur and now Business Wellbeing Coach. She is the creator of the platform Wellbeing Weekly, which provides mindset, wellbeing & business tools and support for female health & wellbeing entrepreneurs to thrive in their business and life - without sacrificing their own wellbeing, relationships or lifestyle.

After building a successful skincare business from side hustle to full-time global brand over the past five years with her partner, she knows the highs and lows that can come with entrepreneur life. Struggling to find the resources and support she needed earlier on in her business journey and experiencing burnout, she overhauled her business & life to better align and work on her terms - by combining her counselling and entrepreneurial skills & knowledge, mindset shifts, online marketing strategies and more.

She now provides a supportive space for women in health & wellbeing businesses to successfully sell their services online in a way that prevents burnout and effortlessly builds their impact, income and ideal lifestyle. She does this through her podcast, free resources and signature group coaching program - Wealthy Wellpreneurs.

When she’s not working on her businesses, you can find her practising yoga, sourcing the best-smashed avocado dish or out walking her dog, Koda.

You can have just as much transformation with an afternoon down at the beach in your local area than you could flying to New Zealand.
— Michelle Kerr

In the episode...

  • Michelle’s first ‘big’ trip was on a Contiki tour through Europe when she was 19. She saw this as an opportunity to trust her and know that she would have to find her way.

  • Going by herself she knew she would be able to travel on her own agenda.

  • Going on an organised tour meant she could relax and not worry about the details of her trip and could enjoy the adventure with the structure in place.

  • Michelle left the tour early and had some time where she was challenged to ‘figure out’ the details of her travels.

  • Taking a holiday may not be the ‘break’ that you need from your life is one of the biggest lessons that Michelle has learned. Rather, managing her day to day so she does not burnout.

  • On the flip side, travel and adventure is important to ease the pressure and responsibility. When Michelle has incorporated this in her life she has found renewed inspiration to bring into her daily life.

  • Michelle shares how taking a break can be counterproductive if you are not managing your day to day effectively.

  • The importance of incorporating travel, adventure and breaks into your everyday as to not burn out in your everyday life.

  • Not to put expectations onto your travels and adventures.

  • Travel has continually taught Michelle that there is always more and there are endless opportunities in the world.

  • Travel is such a valuable investment in so many ways.

  • If your on the fence about going on an adventure, think about when you come towards the end of your life. If you feel like you will look back and wish you had travelled then it’s important to try and embrace it even if you don’t feel comfortable.

Why Michelle continues to seek out travels and adventures? Its a form of mindfulness and self-care. Michelle can get out of business mode, rechange and tap into herself so she can be more intentional with her time.

When you’re switching up your environment more regularly you don’t put so much pressure on yourself for your holidays to mean to much or be a transformative experience.
— Michelle Kerr
